sigmas-bookshelfSchool media specialists, tech integrationists, or anyone that works with teen writers – listen up! There is an exciting new publishing company started by a high school sophomore in Wayzata, MN called Sigma’s Bookshelf that is focusing on publishing books by writers ages 12 – 19. The company will work with the teen writer regarding editing, proofreading, and more!

Read on for the full explanation from the company:

Manuscripts for books of all different genres are submitted through the website, www.sigmasbookshelf.com, and reviewed within 30 days. For those books selected for publication, the kids will be provided with a written “contract,” letting them know what we will be doing for them for free, and discounts available to them if they want printed books. We are also giving the kids royalties for books sold online and in stores. Those turned down will get a letter of explanation on why the book was turned down and recommendations on what they can do to improve their chances of getting published in the future.

For each title accepted for publication, Sigma’s Bookshelf will work with the kids to edit and proofread manuscripts, then get the books formatted and uploaded to a print on demand service. Each book selected for publication will be provided with a Sigmas Bookshelf ISBN #. All time spent editing, proofreading, uploading, etc., is being provided for free by volunteers who work in the publishing industry. I have attached a postcard we created to hand out to kids when we got into schools.

By the way, Sigma is one of the characters in Justin’s soon-to-be released debut novel, Nothing But Trouble. It is the story of an experiment intended to cure cancer that went very wrong. Here is a link <https://youtu.be/sBTmZ3QV7kM> to a segment that aired on KSTP Television in November about the company. There is also an article about Sigma’s Bookshelf in the Wayzata edition of the Sun Sailor. <http://sailor.mnsun.com/2016/11/03/wayzata-high-sophomore-launches-publishing-company-exclusively-for-teens/>
